it's crappy paperbacks!
well, that's very judging a book by its cover of me. perhaps the story of, "possession. murder. mayhem. let the games begin...exorcism isn't a job, it's a calling--and a curse..." could be gripping.

i think you need to make it a mission to find out which neighbor likes to read these books.
maybe trying to build on the twilight series craze..am sure 'a touch of twilight' is quite similar.
