sunny

this lady totally made my morning the other day. it was dreary & rainy and here she was...a vision of sunshine on the subway. i was most impressed that she had matched the tones of yellow exactly.

a fellow commuter was chatting her up, so i eavesdropped. she's an artist (not surprisingly) and is currently an assistant working in the gallery/studio of a famous artist. she can never reveal who it is, for fear of losing her job...the world must think the famous artist produces his own work. wouldn't even give a hint.

it was such an interesting conversation that i stayed on one extra stop just to listen in!

oh, irene

well, we survived irene. and, in all honesty, i basically slept through it.

it goes with out saying that the disaster-fueled local tv news & weather channel coverage was out of control. that said, here was my favorite sound bite--from new jersey's governor, chris christie:

get the hell off the beaches...it's 4.30, you've maximized your tan...

way to tell it like it is, new jersey!

oh, irene (part deux)

the bad news is there's only a disney princess flashlight left...

...the good news, a plethora of devotional candles:

come on, irene

hurricane! the weather channel is all a flutter with 24 hour storm coverage.

the last one i remember up here in new york was floyd - my parents' yard completely flooded - back in 1999.

and way back when i remember the aftermath of bob when we visited rhode island. my other memory of that trip was seeing hot shots, so a quick google & that must've been 1991.

snow day!

well, not exactly. woke up to my living room window (mind you i'm on the 3rd floor) covered in snow:

and then, still had to get myself to work right on time, in the 19 inches:

winter, you are a real doozy this year.

meanwhile...

south of the border my mother mocks me with picturemail of sunshine & palm trees. sigh.

dear saks

snowflakes? really? i realize that temps were a bit cooler in new york today, but according to the calendar it is still summer. why, oh why, would you be projecting snowflakes on fifth avenue tonight?

Monday, August 23, 2010

i'm lovin' it

i can do without the rain, but these temperatures in the 60s are just delightful. keep it up, new york.

who knew the weather channel was stepping up their music? tonight, my local on the 8s forecast featured this sweet jam:

what else are they playing...the clash, the who, issac hayes, pink floyd, aphex twin - even phish sold out. check out their monthly playlists here.
