sunny

this lady totally made my morning the other day. it was dreary & rainy and here she was...a vision of sunshine on the subway. i was most impressed that she had matched the tones of yellow exactly.

a fellow commuter was chatting her up, so i eavesdropped. she's an artist (not surprisingly) and is currently an assistant working in the gallery/studio of a famous artist. she can never reveal who it is, for fear of losing her job...the world must think the famous artist produces his own work. wouldn't even give a hint.

it was such an interesting conversation that i stayed on one extra stop just to listen in!

fun with fashion

spotted this gentleman on the corner of 57th & 6th over the weekend, coming out of a pop-up fur coat sample sale. he was certainly the target market in this burgundy number. fur coats for men fascinate me, but he was owning it.

fun with fashion (part deux)

this woman got on the bus in head to toe powder blue. her skirt had an abundance of kittens printed on it (shame you can't see that) and she had this topper of a headband. and, oh, she was waaaay too old be in this get up on a day that was not halloween.

my new obsession

are my dining chairs that i snagged at the jonathan adler warehouse sale and had covered in an amazing fabric from hable construction. smitten.

super cute

i wish i could pull off the colored tights and open-toed shoes look. super cute.

i heart junk

for part of my vacation i drove up to brimfield, massachusetts for their final antiques show for the year. i was in utter flea market heaven:

didn't end up buying too much, but i did procure a fun union jack painting on glass:

just need to fill in a few chips on the frame with a bit of watercolor and we'll be good to go.

matchy-matchy

tonight, the empire state building was a lovely shade of blue that matched the sky at twilight (the time of day, not the vampires).

apparently it's in honor of autism speaks & autism awareness month.

ever wonder what color the empire state building is? you can track it down here.

goodbye, old friend

not that i'm tracking any YoNYCs (seeing how it's the "year of the upgrade" and not the "year of NYC"), but i did hit up the guggenhiem to see the kandinsky retrospective one last time.

and to say adieu to composition viii, my favorite painting. in the world. ever. farewell, my friend. until we meet again...

overheard (animal color edition)

her: "you really need to get a tie that matches my dress."
him (on other end of phone, presumably): "what color is it?"
her: "it's peacock"

no offense, but for some reason, i have a feeling he has no idea what color that actually is.

scoot! scoot!

it's a shame it was nighttime so the pic was brighter and the color better, but check out this sweeeeeet tangerine vespa parked outside my building tonight:

it's so cute, it really is worth checking out a clear photo from the vespa site:

she's a color scientist

i'm newly fascinated with the idea of becoming a "color psychologist". how's that for reinventing myself?

i didn't even know that the career existed until i came a cross an article a few months back in time magazine. it talked about companies like pantone and how there are think tanks that set color trends for the coming years.

this year, the article pointed out, "purple is having a moment". forecast for 2009 - watchout for mimosa everyone!

ebay newbie

so, i never got into the whole ebay thing. and the one person i did know that used ebay was ripped off. (well, he was asking for it, sending a money order to a shady canadian PO box in the hopes of receiving a playstation.) so, i've always been skeptical.

but, now that i'm on a retro/flea market style furniture kick, i've been poking around. i'm kinda loving this vintage clock at the moment. it's pretty bold-looking, but in situ, i think it works.

bidding ends tomorrow - what do you think?
