F&%ck off Yammer....have I said too much?

Started back at work this week, and already I feel like technology has passed me by. Yammer is the new 'must-have' app, apparently the business form of Twitter or Facebook. Either way, I hate it.

Not only is everyone inviting me to be their Yammer buddy with the freakish statement "you are now being followed by [insert name]"; like any of us need another place to check if someone has communicated with us. But now the person who sits next to me has just invited me to be in their Yammer thingey, pledging to follow my every move online. This is where I draw the line.

Yammer and I will not be friends. I think all these new tools that have sprung up under the guise of "more effective communication" are such a waste of space. Just another way to pretend your busy in my mind....which incidentally I am all for but being stalked at work by another form of technology by people I am trying to limit communication with is just too much.

happy square root day!

mathematicians and nerdbergers everywhere are rejoicing that it's square root day - 3/3/09. only 7 more years to go til the next one.

let me know if you need help doing the math.

where the streets have a name

today, the mayor apparently renamed the block next to my work (a.k.a. w53rd st.) "U2 Way". i was too lazy to go down the 7 stories to check out the festivities, but did get a snap of the jazzy new sign. interestingly, U2 way is the next block over from det. lennie briscoe.

in like a lion...

happy march! here is a snap of the nyc snow day. is it spring yet??

snow day?

the weather channel is calling it the "monday megastorm," with thunder snow & 6"-10".

if only work would call a snow day (hint, hint).

just plain coco loco

check out a couple of coco loco tribute tattoos - will ferrell as elf and britney spears during the height of her breakdown. you can check out more from ew.com here

just plain coco loco, part deux

gotta go? then you might have to pay.

low-cost & no-frills european carrier ryanair recently said it's considering charging to use the toilet in flight. granted, they charge only £2 for a flight, but there is nothing admirable about this. just plain coco loco.

one fish, two fish...

crazy new fish. check out the recently discovered "psychedelica" fish. or should that be phish?

crafternoons

today, in anticipation of a snow day, i decided to bake.

didn't get any snow (yet), but i did get a dozen cranberry orange whole wheat muffins out of it.

what year is this?

yesterday on my way to work i saw not one, but two grown adults using a scooter as their preferred mode of transportation.

do you believe in life after octuplets?

apparently even cher is weighing in on the octomom:

"I'm so negative against her. She just shouldn't have any of those children as far as I'm concerned...She acts like someone who is not of this world. It's like, 'hello come down to planet earth with the rest of us'."

really? really cher?

who knew?

in honor of her 50th birthday (i guess that's why she's also hanging on facebook), newsweek took a look at bizarro barbies of the past. my fave is the pooper scooper barbie:

after her dog tanner does his biz, barbie use her "nifty magnetic pooper scooper" to put it in the bin. check out other oddball barbies here

OPP, take 10

Paris. Summer. Rooftop photo-op. Hey man, now you're really livin'.

goodbye...

to conan o'brien in new york.

in honor of his last show on friday, here is one of my favorite clips - conan celebrating st. patrick's day in chinatown:

i think the funniest part is at 3:15!

goodbye...part deux

socks the white house "tuxedo" cat , who passed away last week at 19 years old.

this put socks in the range of 82-94 in human years.

apparently, there is inconsistency on the cat-to-human-yrs ratio. but, net net - the poor thing was old.

who approved this?

flesh-eating fish pedicures?! eewwwww...

YoNYC #10

monday night i headed down to tribeca for dinner at the austrian "blaue gans" (blue goose) restaurant for some schnitzel, spätzle and chocolate crêpe lollipops to rival david burke. yummy!

the jeans!

well, the 90s splatter jeans made it out of banana republic and on to the streets. this pair was even more colorful.

table topic #28

this week's topic is from the travel edition:

28. What trip would you most like to take in your lifetime?

there are a loads of places i want to see...mt. rushmore, japan, alaska, australia, etc.

but if we are talking trip of a lifetime here, i have to go antarctica for sure. yes, cold. yes, desolate. but, i've always been fascinated by the place. maybe one day...

YoNYC #8

this afternoon i went down to DUMBO to the brooklyn flea pop-up market. normally out in fort greene, the flea has moved to a pair of vacant indoor spaces for the winter.

i found a great pitcher for my collection. and JS picked up a few treats for herself as well.

YoNYC #9

...and followed up the visit to DUMBO with a walk across the brooklyn bridge at sunset, back to manhattan. here are some pix:

that lunch meat's bourgoise

i keep seeing this commerical all the time. and i just can't look away.

happy (actual) valentine's day!

enjoy this "heart chain" snapped in MoMA last month.

YoNYC #7

today i went to the guggenheim, which i haven't been to in years - i even became a member today.  if you like abstract/conceptual art like i do, the current exhibition, "the third mind: american artists contemplate asia 1860-1989" is fab.
