why i heart jason schwartzman

i particularly liked his sweet "cartoon gallery" jam (1:07).

why i feel old, part 35

today, in a taxi on the way home i had the realization that i graduated from high school 16 years ago - 16!

sigh.

who approved this? (teen beat edition)

is it just me...?

or is this straw way too big for its own good?

dear yahoo!

i'm kinda offended that you think i have hemerroids. terrific that you are the #1 doctor recommended brand and that i can save $2 now, but for the record, i do not. thanks.

fun with skymall

you know one of my favorite part of air travel is the joy of perusing skymall. my faves from this issue:

facetrainer...not exactly sure what i'm training my face to do, but this is totally hot.

litter kwitter potty training kit...for your cat. (that cat's expression is seriously priceless, no?)

sad.

alanis-esque ironic. but - alas, poor yorrick - sad.

you're welcome

love this

spotted this on a colleague's desk down in nashville. fantastic.

ps - hard to see, but his thought bubble is a mini "whoa" - love.

i'm sorry...

but i have no interest in wearing a bonnet of douche. but hey, thanks for offering.

admirable, but coco loco (environment edition)

so, totally admirable that the hotel has a little card to place on your bed if you choose to not have your sheets changed, thus saving water. but - and it might be hard to make out - the card is stuck under the glass of the bedside table, thus rendering it coco loco.

just the charms

apparently there is now a company that sells cereal marshmallows... just the marshmallows, no cereal included.

i can't decide if that is kinda grody, or kinda awesome. either way, you can purchase yours here.

this little gnome...

is buckling up and flyin' on down to nashville for a few days. have a good week, y'all!

off to see the wizard

spotted this at lunch the other day outside the gershwin theatre, home to wicked. sometimes even the great and powerful wizard himself needs a little touch up.

crafternoons!

this week's project was a refurb of my parents' old coffee & side table - lovely mid-century pair by lane - that i rescued from storage. they've had these since 1974 - before i was even a glimmer their eye. here they are before:

and...2 home depots, 1 lowe's, murphy's oil soap, howards restore-a-finish & feed-n-wax, a bit of sandpaper & steel wool and some good ol' fashioned elbow grease later, here is the (re)finished product:

incidentally, my father purchased the tables at a furniture store that was right across the street from my current apartment (which he was working on building at the time). who knew they'd be coming back to the 'hood - some 36 years later?

jealous

speaking of my parents, they are currently traipsing across europe. my mom sent me this lovely picture mail at the ponte vecchio in florence. so jealous.

my new obsession

...is "catalog living," which bills itself as, "a look into the exciting lives of the people who live in your catalogs."

the blog records the fictional life of gary, elaine & their children through the pages of those oh-so-pristine-impossibly-perfect-and-sometimes-ridiculous home goods catalogs. high-larious:

check out more here.

who approved this? (poultry appendages edition)

now, i've seen me some chicken feet at dim sum. but never have i come across a shrink-wrapped pack of raw chicken feet at the local supermarket. who approved this???

road to vegan, folks. road to vegan.

question

as spotted and proposed by frequent TFAAF reader, SRB:

is this simply hot bling? or, a shout-out for good oral hygiene?

flossy, flossy!

(thanks, SRB!)

who knew?

spotted by frequent TFAAF reader Yr. Fav. Librarian, apparently former real world-ers going into politics is becoming an epidemic.

first, kevin powell (ny). now, sean duffy (boston) won the republican primary in wisconsin. who knew the fresh-faced lumberjack would be running for congress?

(thanks, YFL!)

dear saks

snowflakes? really? i realize that temps were a bit cooler in new york today, but according to the calendar it is still summer. why, oh why, would you be projecting snowflakes on fifth avenue tonight?

who approved this? (rodent edition)

i realize it's halloween time in the stores and all, but decorative rodents, pottery barn? really?

even worse is their basket o' rats...

ew. who approved this?

made me smile

fact

i am in such desparate need of a haircut right now that i can only describe myself as rockin' a polamalu.

question

when did fitch get the boot? bummer, dude.

it's official

i have a huge addiction to throw pillows. i am one human being. i live in a 1BR apartment. and yet...i currently have 15(!) throw pillows in my possession. sigh.

ps - i am currently redecorating...check out my new couch!
pps - please excuse the atrocious clutter on my coffee table.

why i feel old, part 34

hard to believe, but super mario bros. was released 25 years ago.

i think i probably played about a solid year of my life's worth of the game back in the day.

i heart junk

for part of my vacation i drove up to brimfield, massachusetts for their final antiques show for the year. i was in utter flea market heaven:

didn't end up buying too much, but i did procure a fun union jack painting on glass:

just need to fill in a few chips on the frame with a bit of watercolor and we'll be good to go.

at least they're honest

hard to make out in this pic, but in the floorplan of the hotel it was labelled that my room (#233) was adjacent to "noisy highway."

why i feel old, part 33

"smells like teen spirit" was released 19(!) years ago. sigh.

who approved this? (readymade edition)

don't get me wrong - i love CVS. i can't leave the place without spending $85. but, pre-made penne & meatballs? i am all about convenience, but that can't be palatable. who approved this?

hey, weren't you on the real world?

this little gnome...

is going to be on vacation as of tomorrow afternoon and for all of next week.

agenda includes, but is not limited to: florida to visit my niece, massachusetts for the brimfield antiques show, redecorating my apartment (year of the upgrade, and all), visit with the extended clan, crafternoons and naps.

have a great labor day weekend, y'all!

just in case...

barnes & nobles' professionally printed directions to their new(ish) store on e86th was confusing, there is this handy cardboard reminder - outside of the glass. nice work, neighbors.

table topic #35

haven't done a table topic in ages! inspired by the above headline on yahoo:

35. Do you have a food phobia? If so, what?

Surprisingly, raisins (as pictured) are on yahoo's list. I quite enjoy them, personally. And while I don't like fish at all, i wouldn't necessarily call it a phobia. Same with vinegar. Aversion, severe dislike - yes. Phobia, no. But what I do have a tremendous disgust - and dare I say, phobia - for is mayonnaise. I simply cannot deal. Ew. Ew. Ew.

who knew?

not only does lil' wayne like sizzurp, turns out he's a huge tennis fan. he recently penned a letter to sports illustrated predicting nadal & clijsters for the win at the open. who knew?

colorful idea

pic is a little blurry - sorry - but i spotted this in central park. cute use of sidewalk chalk!

who approved this? (denny's edition)

now this is a cheesy explosion. don't get me wrong - i love a grilled cheese. and like a nice mozzarella stick.

but a grilled cheese stuffed with a mozzarella stick? who at denny's approved this?? the "fried cheese melt" just seems so, so wrong.
