who approved this? (beheading edition)

now, i understand that if you have a restaurant you want the decor to be befitting of the cuisine/theme. but a guillotine?? how is that possibly inviting? qui a approuvé cette?

curb your dog

took a walk at lunch time the other day and came across these gems. if you look closely, you'll see the rules: no dog sh*t.

stay classy, new york!

coaster

the past couple of weeks have been a bit of a roller coaster. and thinking about that has gotten the theme song to the great space coaster stuck in my head on more than one occasion!

ten years on

in remembrance.

faces of ground zero

on friday night, i decided to walk home from work. i stopped and use the restroom at the time warner center and came across "faces of ground zero" exhibition there--a powerful display of life-sized polaroid portraits taken soon after september 11th.

i was fortunate to have seen the original display at grand central terminal, soon after the pictures were taken, in 2002. and later at rockefeller center. and on september 11th, i tend to take out the book and take a look at the portraits.

the camera is no longer usable, but the photographer was able to revisit & photograph some of his subjects 10 years on, which he partnered with the original photographs.

i am grateful to have serendipitously happen upon it again. you can see more here.

houston, we have a problem. no, really.

um, that cannot be good.

c'est vrai

i re-read the little prince not too long ago. such a sweet tale. here is one of my favorite quotes (en français):

"Voici mon secret. Il est très simple: on ne voit bien qu'avec le cœur. L'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux."

who approved this? (cheesy edition)

oh, denny's. a 1,690 calorie mac-n-cheese burger?! who approved this monstrosity?

mazel tov

congrats to neil diamond and his 30-years-younger bride-to-be. to quote, mrs. p.r., "there is a lid for every pot."

schweddy balls are back!

gotta love ben & jerry's sense of humor, introducing their newest limited edition flavor, "schweddy balls." hi-larious.

good times.

love this

related to the above post, the press release was sent by the "grand poobah of pr" - now, how can i get a title like that?

good question

frequent TFAAF reader Jules asked re the below post, "is your mug resting on a rice cake?" while it might appear so, it's actually a set of shellstone coasters i picked up in Fort Worth.

oh, give me a home...

oh, to be out roaming with the buffalo. sigh.

my souvenir mug will just have to do.

who knew?

not that i really care, but i thought it was a bit bizarro that george clooney's former flame and dancing with the stars contestant (star? really?) elisabetta canalis had an arm band tattoo tribute to eminem. who knew? it's apparently now covered by some sort of floral motif. either way, bizarro.

my new obsession

recognize that i am totally late to the party on this one, but i am digging this sweet jam...
