this little gnome...

is off to Atlanta for the weekend. i'll be sure to say hello to Chipper Jones and Wolf Blitzer for you.

ps - who knew that MLB licensed garden gnomes?

bizarro cake

this is an interesting equation:

karaoke + cake puppet + the carpenters + subtitles = maximum youtube bizarroness

what the hell is this???

calling all nerds

i suppose these dudes are like best buy's "geek squad." i think they have,  however, the better digits. are my nerds in the house?

is that what i think it is?

as many of you know, a large part of my career has been working on the feminine hygiene category.

so, i'm fairly unfazed when it comes to the topic. that is, until i came across this ad campaign from australia...

admirable, but coco loco (extreme sports edition)

regular TFAAF reader MB recently returned from an amazing trip to new zealand.

while wanting to immerse yourself in the local culture is admirable ("when in rome," if you will), jumping off a bridge with merely your ankles tied to a cord into a river below is coco loco, girl!

oh, amazon

i think amazon's recommendation tool was on the fritz yesterday. while i was interested in a pedometer (left), i don't think a $1,200 refrigerator is a "similar item".

loafing around

my foray into baking continues. instead of muffins, i decided a loaf was in order this week. banana chocolate chip, to be exact. yum.

admirable, but coco loco (bathroom edition)

living is a city means space is small. so admirable that this architect wanted to find a space saving design for this studio apartment...

but...a bathroom that pulls out directly into your living space?!

who wants to poop their living room?! what do you do when you have guests?! verdict: coco loco.

who knew?

that mr. bigglesworth's real name was "mel gibskin"?

fun with fonts

as you may know, i secretly want to be an art director / graphic designer (vs. a math-loving media peon). here are two fun fonts i recently found - named apricot & pineapple, respectively.

um, no thanks

this is the worst call to action. i will not be clicking, thank you very much.

oh, lifetime

turns out, it's not only jerry o'connell that has been sucked into the vortex that is the lifetime movie event - nora roberts, edition.

looks like jason lewis, brittany murphy & leann rimes will all be playing sultry roles for the cable network. leann is also allegedly having an affair with her airbrushed co-star. that's more scandalous than lifetime could ever hope to be...

this week's swap...

this week, we have 4 out of a 6 pack of single-serve applesauce...

who approved this?

the incredibly edible egg has been taken over by disney...sigh. is nothing sacred?

i ♥ snacklish

it started with, "snaxi" on the taxi tops. but really, i heart anything that involves a sir -----salot.

YoNYC #13

per a reader request, here is an additional YoNYC from last week. two frat boys and a guitar at the living room.

thanks, FB

facebook was right on top of my birthday.

and, while it was lovely to have it alert peeps to the fact, it also meant a new round of ageist ads...

PC load letter?!

it's  universal truth that network printing is pretty crap. never works when you need it to.

tho an awesome work freakout - driven by a blank page, then black page, then toner dust shower - i do think his solution of just photocopying the monitor itself is pretty genius.

i ♥ you more than...

belated from valentine's day, but check out this i love you more than... project from paperwhite studio. you can browse others' (above) or add your own here.

who knew?

that there was a crime called "arborcide" for killing trees? apparently there has been a rash of them in recent weeks in nyc.

can't wait for this to be "ripped from the headlines" on law & order.

Just when I thought I knew who I was....

I go and almost order a Starbucks Venti on THREE separate occasions last week. I was seriously rationalising each time why the Venti was a good idea. WTF? Everyone knows how I feel about the Venti. Total coco loco. Clearly, I have lost all sense of reality. I must be allergic to work.

who approved this? (poo edition)

thanks to courtney for posting a response to the "who approved this?" of the huggies potty dance ad. this one is unimaginably worse...

muffin of the week

so, i'm kinda on a muffin kick right now - a new hobby, if you will. my first (undocumented) foray a few weeks ago was a banana-cherry, followed by a nice cranberry-orange

and tonight i think the tastiest yet - raspberry-apple...yum!

oh, jerry

poor jerry o'connell. i know that he just had twins and kids are expensive, but did he have to go for this role? check out this lifetime movie of the week and his fabio-style poster that's around town right now.

YoNYC #12

headed downtown on saturday night and stumbled into the unmarked "ten bells," a wine & tapas bar on the lower east side.

my first glass was a bit too sweet, but the second was a nice dry. i also heard the octopus was quite tasty.

table topic #29

food topic this week:

29. What is the most impressive thing you've ever cooked?

i actually like to cook, but don't do anything super impressive very often. i think my best dish was a chocolate & banana bread pudding. i went to the bakery just before closing and ended up with 3 free loaves. rather than go to waste, i whipped up a pudding - complete with a water bath and everything. even served it with custard. yum.

overheard (search edition)

"why don't you just google him and carol burnett? i'll do it. i love to google random things..."

pretty sad

...that i came across a tv in the trash that was actually better than my current one - while this was also 13", it was a dvd combo and hello kitty.

if you could put on some pants, that would be great...

so, i get it. it's winter. it's chilly out. so when there is even the slightest bit of a hit of spring everyone gets excited.

that said, it's still winter, it was only 57.6° out in nyc on friday and it was tourist hell in times square. but it's still no excuse for shorts & mandals. (note the couple on the left in matching black puffy coats).

i've joined a cult

sure there was the slanket. and, while a skymall gem, i did make fun of it a bit last year.

but, that was before it was ripped off and rebranded the snuggie. ever since i got my own for my b'day i've become a convert.

that said, enjoy a snuggie parody (hmm...maybe that does explain why i don't have a date for the prom):

my new obsession

is this yummmmmmmmy cherry vanilla granola from back to nature.

who approved this?

i am definitely not in the target market for this, but it just seems wrong...

also note that the host will be played by kenan thompson from SNL.

F&%ck off Yammer....have I said too much?

Started back at work this week, and already I feel like technology has passed me by. Yammer is the new 'must-have' app, apparently the business form of Twitter or Facebook. Either way, I hate it.

Not only is everyone inviting me to be their Yammer buddy with the freakish statement "you are now being followed by [insert name]"; like any of us need another place to check if someone has communicated with us. But now the person who sits next to me has just invited me to be in their Yammer thingey, pledging to follow my every move online. This is where I draw the line.

Yammer and I will not be friends. I think all these new tools that have sprung up under the guise of "more effective communication" are such a waste of space. Just another way to pretend your busy in my mind....which incidentally I am all for but being stalked at work by another form of technology by people I am trying to limit communication with is just too much.

happy square root day!

mathematicians and nerdbergers everywhere are rejoicing that it's square root day - 3/3/09. only 7 more years to go til the next one.

let me know if you need help doing the math.

where the streets have a name

today, the mayor apparently renamed the block next to my work (a.k.a. w53rd st.) "U2 Way". i was too lazy to go down the 7 stories to check out the festivities, but did get a snap of the jazzy new sign. interestingly, U2 way is the next block over from det. lennie briscoe.

in like a lion...

happy march! here is a snap of the nyc snow day. is it spring yet??

snow day?

the weather channel is calling it the "monday megastorm," with thunder snow & 6"-10".

if only work would call a snow day (hint, hint).

just plain coco loco

check out a couple of coco loco tribute tattoos - will ferrell as elf and britney spears during the height of her breakdown. you can check out more from ew.com here

just plain coco loco, part deux

gotta go? then you might have to pay.

low-cost & no-frills european carrier ryanair recently said it's considering charging to use the toilet in flight. granted, they charge only £2 for a flight, but there is nothing admirable about this. just plain coco loco.

one fish, two fish...

crazy new fish. check out the recently discovered "psychedelica" fish. or should that be phish?

crafternoons

today, in anticipation of a snow day, i decided to bake.

didn't get any snow (yet), but i did get a dozen cranberry orange whole wheat muffins out of it.
