this little gnome...

is off again.

heading down south to relax with sunglasses & book in hand.

and to meet my new niece or nephew (tbd). woot!

goodbye...

what a week...ed mcmahon, farrah fawcett and now michael jackson.

i bet the fray will be most upset about that last piece of news, seeing as how their today show appearance was cancelled by MJ:

i have a feeling i'd like this

1. it's a roller coaster, which i thoroughly enjoy and 2. it's called "bizarro" - what's not to love? too bad six flags is going bankrupt.

who approved this? (elements edition)

$14.99 for a vat of oxygen? who approved that price point? and placement in the cold aisle? i've got an idea...how about you breathe in & out for free?

oh to be young again

i stayed with family over the weekend and my pre-teen cousin has this posted in her bathroom - hairstyles of the week - which made me smile. they include:

mon = pony in the back
tues = 2 ponies in front (hannah [montana] hair) -
wed = bun in back
thurs = headband
fri = freestyle

i have to say, i'm really looking forward to friday.

drummer bummer

it's been 25 years, and the drummer from def leppard is still being described as, "one-armed." poor dude.

mmm...meat

totally stole this from one of my favorite sites - passiveaggressivenotes.com - but thought it was worth a re-post. cracked me up.

keep being awesome!

depressing

if a recession isn't depressing enough, see how quickly a-rod or manny ramirez makes your annual salary with ESPN's salary crunch. generally, it'll take you a few centuries to make with they do. sigh.

admirable, but coco loco (tchotchke edition)

oh, bravo. appetizers sent to the office around 2pm does not a media tchotchke make.

i suppose that wanting to give the buyers a snack is admirable, but this concoction - questionable tuna served under plastic wrap with 3 generous wheat thins - is definitely coco loco. more like an unappetizer, if you ask me.

i really wish i had been in that meeting when they brainstormed this idea...

(thanks TD & RB!)

YoNYC #28

last week i hit carnegie hall to see pink martini, who are a fantastic "little orchestra." it was a great show - one of the best concerts i've seen in a while.

but, it was also totes bizarro featuring: a newborn baby in the audience, a impromptu photo shoot at intermission, i was sitting behind luis from sesame street and 2 seats from matthew modine, who later led a congo line thru the hall.

overheard (animal color edition)

her: "you really need to get a tie that matches my dress."
him (on other end of phone, presumably): "what color is it?"
her: "it's peacock"

no offense, but for some reason, i have a feeling he has no idea what color that actually is.

cheap dreams

why is this store called "99 cent dreams," you ask?

think you can find something there for under a $1? read the find print and think again...you are dreamin'!

fashion forward?

i'm sorry, but i just don't get these sandal/anklet boot combos.

who knew?

that nascar licensing also extended to romance novels?

from the amazon listing:

What happened to car chief Lexie Mercer's star driver?

Kane Jackson used to be an untamed force. A winner. Now he's calm, composed -- and apathetic. She can't even pick a fight with him anymore! What's worse, his lackluster mood is affecting his racing.

Then Kane does the unthinkable. He kisses Lexie, giving in to months of pent-up desire. How could this happen? Lexie is bossy, brainy...and exactly the woman to ignite his lost passion for winning.

But Lexie knows Kane's got to stay focused on racing, despite his insistence that one night together will get her out of his system and into Victory Lane.

It won't work. It can't work. Can it?

this seems like a book that will end up in my lobby swap

it's a hell of a day at sea, sir

today was a doozy. not only did i spill a cup of coffee all over my lap this morning, by lunchtime i had also set my wallet on fire. note the scorched burn mark over the darker blue dot. sigh.

root-toot-toot root-toot-toot-too

no, that's not for shrek: the musical (don't get me started on that), but rather the line around the block is for third eye blind. did i wake up in 1997 again?

do you like flock of seagulls?

i can tell you do.

who knew?

thanks to whatevs, for pointing out that the phil's world series rings are even more OTT: 14k white gold with 103 diamonds totaling 3.84 carats, and a ruby inlay.  flossy.

i guess my neighbors are mets fans

awkward feud

apparently, there is a little feud going on between awkward family photos and sexy people. either way, both are highly amusing. here's one from SP, "a celebration of the perfect portrait":

oh, shrek. oh, liza.

not that i really want to devote more blogspace to bret michaels, but i love his quote on the whole tonys incident

"All I remember is Shrek and the donkey helping me up, and Liza [Minnelli] giving me a towel."

YoNYC #27

it wouldn't be summer without a NYC street fair. unfortch, the one on my block yesterday was in the rain. but no worries - there was plenty of tube socks, sheet sets, bootleg CDs, $1.00 thai food, lemonade & mozzarepas go to around.

who approved this? (bling edition)

i get it, they're "world champions" (in a sport/league that features only one country, but whatevs).

but, the steelers' super bowl rings each weigh a quarter of a pound and contain 63 diamonds that equal 3.61 carats. who approved 63 diamonds?!  just a tad extravagant, no?

this week's swap...

is a double offering: a basket of faux mini-sunflowers and a framed black & white pic of central park. as of this afternoon, the pic is gone, but flowers are still there, chintzing up the lobby.

who approved this? (misplaced furniture edition)

i do know the answer to this question. and yes, it's true...not only have they changed the traffic patterns and closed broadway, they've bizarroly added lawn chairs for your urban enjoyment.

love these

need to break some bad news? why not do it with baby animals?

check out this concept here

actually stopped to admire the amazing ceiling at grand central terminal.

is it just me...?

or is a "run the planet" website not quite the best placement for a banner ad for motorized scooters?

fun with color

need a color swatch? you can play around with different combinations via the "color scheme designer" here

who approved this? (giant figurine edition)

check out these creepy, enormous bobbleheads spotted in times square. not approved.

tempting, but a little too far away...

who approved this? (swine edition)

a pig roast? smack in the middle of 16th street? where are your permits for this?

poor bret michaels

first, he bites it at the tonys. then, his related search in his headlining yahoo! story is all about his hair extensions:

play him off, keyboard cat:

YoNYC #23

got to play tourist over the weekend with dear friends, one of which was visiting for the first time from london. so, a couple of YoNYCs, starting with a circle line sightseeing cruise:

the iconic circle line.

skyline & tourists galore.

did you know that lady liberty's face is modeled after the sculptor's mother? she was a single mom and worked to send him to art school. we learned that from "dave." or was it "dan?"

big up to brooklyn.

and big pimpin' out in LIC.

YoNYC #24

went up the empire state building for the first time! excellent views, btw:

art deco lobby.

northeast view.
